FAQs

  • How does online therapy work?

Online therapy is delivered via Zoom. Before each session, we’ll send you a secure Zoom link to join at your scheduled time.

For young children, we ask that a parent or caregiver sit with them during the session. This helps monitor behaviour and allows you to observe and learn. We aim to make each session as interactive and engaging as possible, using games, visuals, and movement to keep your child motivated and involved.

We also encourage parents to actively watch and learn strategies and techniques during the session. This way, you can continue to support your child’s communication development throughout the week with confidence and consistency.

Online speech therapy works best for people who:

    • Have a reliable internet connection and device (laptop or tablet)

    • Are able to set up in a quiet space with minimal distractions

    • Are motivated and engaged (or have a parent/caregiver who can support this)

    • Want flexible access to high-quality therapy from the comfort of home

    • Are open to being involved and practicing strategies between sessions

If that sounds like you, online therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face sessions—and often even more convenient!

  • Yes—online speech therapy can be highly effective. Research shows that Teletherapy can achieve the same outcomes as in-person sessions for many speech and language goals.

Our team uses interactive, play-based strategies, screen-sharing, digital tools, and real-time coaching to keep children engaged and learning. For young children, parent involvement is a key part of success. We guide you through the techniques so you can confidently support your child between sessions, which often leads to faster progress.

Online therapy also removes travel time, allows children to learn in a familiar environment, and offers flexible access to high-quality services—especially if you live in a remote area or have a busy schedule.

Every child is different, so we’ll always discuss whether online therapy is the best fit for your family.

  • During an initial consultation, we will assess your child’s communication skills to determine the presence and extent of any difficulties, as well as strengths and motivations. This may involve a parent interview, observation and comprehensive assessment activities. If we find that therapy is needed then we will also discuss goals for your child and develop a treatment plan.

  • If your child has not previously seen a speech therapist, we highly recommend starting with a comprehensive initial assessment. This allows us to accurately identify any speech and language concerns and develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to their needs.

For clients who have previously seen a speech therapist, we may recommend beginning therapy directly, with a dynamic assessment integrated into ongoing sessions.

Please contact us to discuss your assessment needs.

  • Our team has extensive experience working with children of all different personalities, including those who are shy or slow to warm up. In online speech therapy, we create a supportive, low-pressure environment where your child is encouraged to communicate at their own pace.

We use interactive and fun activities tailored to your child’s interests—often incorporating familiar topics, or characters—to help reduce anxiety and build engagement. Even through a screen, we focus on building trust and rapport from the very first session.

It’s also completely normal for some children to take a few sessions to feel comfortable. We understand this and gently support them until they’re ready to participate more actively.

  • The recommended frequency of sessions typically ranges from one to three times per week, depending on the individual's needs and goals. For clients with more complex speech or language disorders, two to three sessions weekly may be beneficial to ensure consistent progress. However, those with milder issues may achieve satisfactory results with just one session per week. It is essential to assess the specific circumstances and preferences of each client to tailor an effective plan.

  • Absolutely. Therapy is most effective when families, schools and therapists are working together. We are more than happy to chat to your child’s school, collaborate on goals and provide feedback about progress.

  • Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) undergo extensive education and training to develop expertise in assessing and treating communication disorders.

SLPs provide a specialist and evidence-based service that is tailored to a client’s needs and requires the development of individualised treatment plans. SLPs aim to address the underlying cause of a communication issue and use remedial techniques and strategies backed by research. It is therefore typically a more targeted and effective service than tuition or teaching.
